The Lean Journey is the process of introducing Lean Thinking processes, and a Lean Thinking culture, to your company. It is also the journey that you will take for your own development, learning about Lean, and beginning to work with process improvement initiatives.

The Training Within Industry Service (TWI) was established in 1940 during World War II to increase production output to support the Allied Forces war effort. The purpose of the TWI program was stated in its overview bulletin, to assist war production industries to meet their manpower needs by training within industry each worker to make the fullest use of his best skill up to the maximum of his individual ability, thereby enabling production to keep pace with war demands. Training Within Industry consisted of 4 courses that an organization would implement to increase production, reduce training time, better utilize manpower, reduce scrap, improve employee relations, and create better training programs. The four TWI courses are:

  1. Job Instruction
  2. Job Methods
  3. Job Relations
  4. Program Development Institute You will learn how the TWI Four-Step Process is used to drive learning, understanding, and using the four TWI Courses:
  1. Preparation – creating a connection between the learners past experience and the lesson to be taught.
  2. Presentation – to get the learner to add the new idea to what the learner already knows.
  3. Application – establishes if the learner can actually “do it”, can the new knowledge be applied correctly.
  4. Testing – allowing the learner to do the job unaided but viewed by the instructor.
